Book Review: The Green Beauty Rules

The Green Beauty Rules by Paige Padgett

Many of us don't think twice about the ingedients in our makeup, and celebrity makeup artist and green beauty expert Paige Padgett wants to change that. In her new book, The Green Beauty Rules: The Essential Guide to Toxic-Free Beauty, Green Glamour, and Glowing Skin, Padgett urges her readers to think about what they're putting on their skin every day.

Padgett has spent years researching the chemicals in cosmetics and shares what she has discovered in terms of what works and what doesn't work when it comes to green/clean beauty products - those that don't contain harmful chemicals. In addition, she disproves common green beauty myths, including that green beauty products are too expensive for an average person to use, too inconvient to be practical and too time-consuming to find in stores.

She shows readers how they can be glamorous while having compassion for their "cosmetic footprint" - the toxic burden on their health and the environment. Padgett helps readers interested in "greening" their beauty routines break the process into steps, working toward a regimen that is made up of 80% clean products and 20% not-as-clean products. She promises that "going green" doesn't mean ridding yourself of your absolute favorite cosmetic item, just reducing your non-green items and replacing most of them with items that are less harmful to your body.

Padgett teachers her readers how to read labels: what chemicals to avoid and how bad each one really is. She even shares smart phone apps that help users find clean cosmetics. In a section that will appeal to all makeup-wearers - no matter their interest in clean and green products - Padgett even offers an illustrated guide for makeup tips and how-to instructions.

The Green Beauty Rules is available at Amazon and all other major booksellers.
