Anyone who has been to prom knows it's far from a cheap experience. There's the cost of tickets, a tux or dress, transportation, after prom activites... the list goes on. Remington College is helping high school students save on these prom-related costs by offering free salons services. For the eighth year, Remington is holding its Prom Night Makeover event, which has provided more than 3,000 high school students nationwide with free services to help them get ready for their big night.
High school students can receive free haircuts, updos, manicures, pedicures and makeup, all performed by students in Remington College's Cosmetology Program. The high schoolers get free services and the college students get real-world experience.
"We love Prom Night Makeover because it really is a win-win, for both the high school students and our cosmetology students," said Charles Woolbright, Remington College Cleveland Campus Cosmetology Chair. "For the high schoolers, they can have a special salon experience and get the exact look they want and it’s all for free. And for our Remington College students, they love helping the kids figure out the look they want and relive the excitement they felt when they were getting ready for their own prom. Giving back to the community is a big part of the Remington College experience."
And if the high schoolers' requests are any indication of what to watch for in style trends, keep an eye on classic looks with a hint of glam. "Most girls go for a classic look for prom," Woolbright said. "Updos are very popular and allow girls to have a very special look without cutting their hair. For makeup, most girls again want that classic look and go for glam eyes and red lips. We do a lot of French tip nails, but some want to do color and coordinate with their dress."
All Prom Night Makeover services will be provided in The Salon at Remington, located at 14801 Broadway Ave. in Maple Heights, on May 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25 and 26 (every Thursday and Friday in May). Salon hours are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Appointments are also available Wednesday through Friday from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.. To schedule an appointment, call 216-584-2490.
